The femal fronted metal band Mahavatar just released a new video for their song “Rise”.
A unique act on the alternative metal scene due to its leading female lineup, Mahavatar’s strains reveal a singular ability to deliver tense and anguished themes, pulled by tumultuous guitars and ponderous rock features.

If you want to let your music rise higher than most others – this contest is just right for you. NASA let’s you create some space rock – a wake-up song for the astronauts on the last Space Shuttle mission which will be launched in February 2011.
Songs should be original, uplifiting and related to space flight. And you need to submit them by Jan 10th, 2011. All the details can be found on the website for the song contest.

Legendary Fierce Femmes, Heart are releasing ‘Red Velvet Car’ on August 31th on Sony Legacy – their first new studio album in six years.
‘Red Velvet Car’ rocks hard but also has a deep acoustic side. An abundance of resonant acoustic instruments (guitars, mandolin, dobro, banjo, fiddle, viola, cello, and autoharp), played by Nancy Wilson and the album’s producer, Ben Mink, are showcased in Heart’s unique style.

The new web site www.girlrocknation.com – run by Fender – will be the gathering place where women can discuss music, learn about females who rock, and seek advice on songwriting, producing music and playing an instrument.
For beginners, the site will be a starting point. For those who already have a deep musical knowledge, the site will help them improve. Those who do not play an instrument can find inspiration to rock in other ways, and find something to stir their inner “rocker.”
